What did I read (and finish) this week? Look below to find out!
Get a Freelance Life: mediabistro.com’s Insider Guide to Freelance Writing by Margit Feury Ragland (2006) – This short books provides insider information on how to freelance, including what you need in your office, the skills you need to be successful, different types of pieces, and how to write a successful pitch. However, it is pretty dense and contains ALL the information ANYONE would EVER need, so it’s best used by skimming and searching for what you personally need to know.
Star Wars: Princess Leia by Mark Waid and illustrated by Terry Dodson (2015) – This graphic novel follows Leia Organa after A New Hope. In it, she must find purpose for her life after the destruction of the Death Star and amid the expectation that she must mourn and fall apart after the loss of her planet. Instead, she goes on a quest to round up all the remaining Alderaans and prove that she is worthy of leading. It shows that Leia is confident in herself and her choices, even when she thinks she’s made the wrong ones, and has a cadre of really cool female characters. The plot is a bit thin and fast, but I liked the characters and art so much that I just gave it a pass. Really good.
Cherry Boy, That Girl by South Ant (ongoing) ch. 85 – In this chapter, Sage, the girl Mandarin dated to make Berry jealous, talks with Mandarin to figure out how important their relationship had been to him.
Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom) by Yusei Matsui (2012 – ongoing) ch. 171 – In this chapter, the second generation God of Death reveals his new, messed-up form to Koro-sensei and he and his handler start an epic fight.
Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars!/Soma’s Cooking Battles) by Yuto Tsukuda (2012 – ongoing) ch. 149.2 and 150 – 149.2 are a bunch of cute volume 16 extras that really have nothing to do with anything. In chapter 150, Erina’s father visitors, reinforces that everything will go according to his plan, and Soma reveals to Erina and her father that his father is their venerated Saiba-sensei.
One Piece by Oda Eiichiro (1997 – ongoing) ch. 410 – 418 – In these chapters, Nami, Sanji, Franky, and Zoro all finish their fights with CP9 and rush off to help Robin, who’s about to be forced through the Gates of Justice. They also stop the rampaging Chopper.
