What did I read (and finish) this week? Look below to find out!
Against Football: One Fan’s Reluctant Manifesto by Steve Almond (2014) – In this short volume, Mr. Almond enumerates the various ways that football is destroying communities, physically, mentally, and psychologically damaging people, and benefiting off its players. It’s electrifying and hard to put down. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about the NFL, college football, sports fanaticism, or good writing.
Cherry Boy, That Girl by South Ant (ongoing) ch. 81 – In this chapter, various friends celebrate Berry’s birthday, including Mandarin, who manipulates her into accepting a gift, and Walnut, who sends her one through Cherry.
Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom) by Yusei Matsui (2012 – ongoing) ch. 170 – In this chapter, Koro-sensei takes the time to teach the kids not to mourn his imminent death or their failed assassination of him – right before a big baddy shows up.
Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars!/Soma’s Cooking Battles) by Yuto Tsukuda (2012 – ongoing) ch. 149 – Everyone celebrates at the Polar Star Dorm while various people talk about how anything is possible with Soma. A filler chapter.
One Piece by Oda Eiichiro (1997 – ongoing) ch. 406 – 409 – The crazy fighting continues, but now Chopper has taken the third Rumble Ball and gone absolutely nuts, hurting Franky in the process. Luffy finally gets to start his confrontation with Lucci.
